Steve K [userpic]
AFAD Update

Hello from Dayton,

This is Peter M., Vice President of American Fencing Academy of Dayton. Steve K. wanted me to shoot off an e-mail this weekend regarding our upcoming tournaments. First of all I wanted to thank you for having us at the D and Under last weekend, we all had a good time and we would be glad to come back again at any time.

First up is the Time Travel Open on March 8th at University of Dayton. It will be out Sectional Circuit Event and is the day before Daylight Savings Time. The FRED link is: http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComing.php?tournament_id=5170

Next is the Wright Challenge on March 15th(the week after Time Travel Open) and is a D and Under. It is at Wright State Universites' Nutter Center. The last D and Under at WSU had over 20 people show up for each event. Also! we are having a novice(dry) foil AND sabre that day too. I, personally, have done a lot of advertising for this tournament so I expect this to be a huge tournament. The FRED link is: http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComing.php?tournament_id=5282

Next is The Northmont Challenge on April 19 held at Northmont High School in Englewood. It should be about half an hour or so closer to you guys than our other tournaments. It is an E And Under and the first tournament we have held at this highschool, so I hope it turns out well. There will be novice dry foil there as well. Our last tournament scheduled for the season(maybe?) is our 4th Annual Ray Bautista Memorial Tournament, an Open tournament held on May 17. Ray Bautista is our club founder who passed away very untimely several years ago due to a stroke. We often give a speech in his memory and his family often shows up from California. Traditionally it is one of the largest events in all of Ohio. Due to its expected size we have to hold it in the Columbus area at the Dublin Sport Fencing Center. If you haven't been there it is a wonderful facility with the capability of 6 fully grounded strips. The FRED link is : http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComing.php?tournament_id=5049

I hope you can make to some or all of these tournaments, this season has been very good for AFAD as many many fencers have shown up at all our tournaments. Also, if you plan on having someone who can direct at some of the larger tournaments it would be great if you could let us know in advance. We will waive some fees/pay the directors if we are aware of them in advance. Let us know what tournaments you are having and we will trying to big car loads of fencers up like last time. Thanks a lot and Im glad our clubs can be on good terms now and in the future.
